IPA London North Members Welcome Inspector Scott Smith From The New South Wales Police And His Wife Yvette To London.
Last night (28/07/14) it was a pleasure to welcome Scott and Yvette to London. IPA London North received email notification of the upcoming visit and were very pleased to assist. Branch Secretary Martyn Evans immediately made contact and plans were made.
We met in a bar in Kings Cross. We were joined by Chris Cowell, Branch Secretary of the Hertfordshire Branch, one of our newest London North members and Branch Chairman Tom O’Reilly. We enjoyed a couple of pints and we discussed the differences in policing between our two countries.
It was good to hear about how the Police in Australia operate and we were surprised to hear about the massive support Australian officers who move to the area or transfer between forces are given.
Scott came armed with a number of New South Wales Police branded gifts which were gratefully received.
Scott and Yvette explained that they were touring several parts of the UK and that they had visited Ireland, Wales and Scotland. When their London visit is over they are heading to Devon, Cornwall and finally Paris.
We remained at the bar until closing time and when we left we thought we would try our luck at going to Hogwarts to see Harry Potter. On this occasion the portal wasn’t working so we said our goodbyes and all headed off in different directions to get our trains back to home / hotels.
It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Scott and Yvette to our city. This evening was not the end of the hospitality being given by the branch. Regional Chairman Sav arranged a visit to the Metropolitan Police Crime Museum. The museum visit is happening as I type.
Scott and Yvette – thank you for visiting our branch and we would welcome you and any of your colleagues to visit us in the future.
